Alice Luey LLB (Hons) – Senior Executive & Legal Analyst for Acquisitions

Alice Luey graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia in 1992 with a Bachelor of Laws Hons. (LLB) (US equivalent of a Juris Doctor’s degree). She was then admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia. She began her professional career in 1993 at Australia’s premier law firm, Allen Allen & Hemsley (now Allens Arthur Robinson) as a solicitor, specializing in the areas of commercial litigation, intellectual property and entertainment law.

Alice moved over to the film and television industry in 1997 and worked with numerous Australian and international film production companies including Matt Caroll Films Pty Limited, Millenium Pictures Pty Limited, Nickolodeon US, Palm Beach Pictures and The James Gang Pty Limited. Her vast range of duties included both legal and production work. Her legal duties included conducting research in the areas of international law, contract, business and entertainment law as related to the motion picture acquisition and development focus of these companies. Her production experience on specific feature film and television productions included Producer’s Assistant, Art Department Manager, Art Director and Locations Manager.

In 1998, she was employed by Matt Carroll Films Pty Limited during the production of the feature film entitled “Passion”. Her duties included management of the Production Design Department, preparing budgets, reporting to the Production Department on all day-to-day cost controls and attending to all legal aspects which arose from the department. “Passion” went on to win 4 awards at the 1999 AFI (Australian Film Institute) Awards, including Best Production Design.

In 1999, she worked on another Matt Carroll Films production of a complex television series for the Sci Fi Channel entitled “Farscape”. Her duties included assisting with the negotiations of shoot locations, preparing and reviewing all contracts and attending to all legal matters which arose.

Between 2000 – 2002, Alice was the Co-managing Director and Director of Legal Affairs for Alexander James Investments Pty Limited and Sunland Pty Limited where she attended to all business matters, including contract, commercial and entertainment law as it related to the focus of the companies.

Alice joined Forbidden City International in Los Angeles, California in March 2003 as a Senior Executive and Legal Analyst for Acquisitions. FCI is a company which specializes in motion picture acquisitions and the foreign distribution of these films. FCI is currently involved in the production of several film, television and dvd/video productions and has an international distribution contract for an independent feature film due to be released this year.

In addition to her legal qualifications, Alice holds several Diplomas and Certificates from UCLA and the Hollywood Film Institute in the areas of Producing and Directing.
