Michael Wool MD, MFA – CEO

The hardest thing about writing about Michael Wool is figuring out what he is. He's a licensed physician who develops products for the medical industry while writing and producing films and publishing a website for the medical profession. And he's certainly not afraid to take risks. While an undergraduate, he actually marketed an empty wine bottle as a gag gift, labeled "Drought Le Drought." That gag earned him a spot on the Tonight Show.

After graduating from UC Berkeley in physiology and economics, Dr. Wool attended Stanford Medical School and graduated with Distinction from George Washington University. Following his residency in Internal Medicine in San Francisco, Dr. Wool moved to Los Angeles where he attended UCLA School of Motion Picture and Television and received his Masters in screenwriting. His student film “Shooting Stress” focused on the problem of intravenous drug abuse amongst high pressure stockbrokers.

At the prestigious Sundance Film workshop he studied under noted "script doctor" Robert Towne. He took this training and started two production companies – Streamliner Films and Forbidden City International. In 2003, Forbidden City International (FCI), teamed up with Funny Boy Films to co-produce the directorial debut of C.J. Cox’s (writer of “Sweet Home Alabama”) film entitled “Latter Days” due out late 2003.

Dr. Wool serves as the Writer's Guild of America consultant in Film and Medicine and has consulted on features such as "A Few Good Men" and “Equal Justice”. He has appeared on the national television network on NBC’s "America's Talking" discussing AIDS and Professional Athletes. He has also appeared on a regional basis for Fox Television and numerous radio talk shows discussing common medical disorders. Dr. Wool received the 1993 and 2001 "Telly Award" for medical educational television and the Medical Marketing Association's "International Award in Excellence” for his medical education films Dr. Wool has served on the Board of Directors for the Asian Theater Company “East West Players” and a board member of CAPE “The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment”.

After film school, Dr. Wool also started Caduceus Productions, a film and video company dedicated to the medical device and pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Wool is also the Senior Partner, Zenalta, a leader in healthcare education. Dr. Wool developed Orbital Intermedia, an interactive multimedia and Internet company authoring CD-ROMS, interactive computer systems and on-line educational services. . He wrote and produced a CD-ROM game using software fractal compression titled, "Neutromania", an adventure game for players traveling through the body and killing invading bacteria.

Dr. Wool has been a member of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases - AIDS Clinical Trial Group has authored and presented his research at the International Conference on AIDS. He is also a member of the American Standards of Testing and Measurements Subcommittee on Latex Allergies. Dr. Wool is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and actively teaches medical students at UCLA School of Medicine. While conducting AIDS Research at the UCLA AIDS Research Center, going full time to film school, Dr. Wool opened a latex glove manufacturing facility in Malaysia and was the CEO and Medical Director of Digitcare Corporation, a world leader in medical glove production. He currently serves as President of Chartscape, a medical software development company focused on driving efficiencies in healthcare clinical and research data management for major university medical centers and hospitals.

By combining his own active research with that of his companies, Wool has integrated education, business and media for the medical community while staying on the cutting edge of technology.

"My free time is usually spent going off to the park or beach with a notepad to draw, paint or write, otherwise the thrill is to wake up everyday and…play the game…" says Wool.

"There is always an opportunity. Recognize the opportunity," he advises. "Obtain the resources, and not necessarily financial, to act on the opportunity. Optimize the use of those resources and in an emergency, take your pulse first."
